A close friend of mine told me that he played a virtual world that started off with you in a car, and the car runs someone over. I thought he was kidding, until he sent me the link to SocioTown and I tried it out myself.. Yep. Just that happened. You start the game in the car with a guy and you run a girl over. The police come and the guy runs away. Luckily, the NPC that got ran over stands up and says she's fine...hahaha. Woo, a game with a tutorial! But being me, I was left a little confused as usual. You are assigned a 'sponsor' (tutorial guide?) who tells you that s/he can't give you a room and instead gives you some errands to be getting on with. Click to walk, hold shift(?) when clicking to run, or something like that. I can't remember now, haha. I got quite frustrated with the errands because you have a time limit, the town's layout it awkward and my character kept getting stuck from running into lampposts and such. Oh, and just as I get back in time to complete the errand, my game decides to crash forcing me to restart it, which means doing the errand again. Argh. Other than the crashing and long errands, the other off-putting thing is the amount of loading screens, and how long they take to load. The graphics are pretty cute, though. It's nice having an actual big town rather than a few buildings in a row like some other games. :) Something weird I noticed is that other players you encounter sometimes have "???" above their head rather than their screen name. Not sure why, really. I managed to spend all my money on a pair of bunny ears...and they made my hair brown, noo! I was going to unequip them but....I may as well wear them since that's where all my money went, haha. This isn't something that I would play long term, but I can see myself signing up again at a later date to experience the unusual start again, haha. |
