Club Penguin is quite often a person's first ever virtual world. I think it was the 4th that I ever played but I still played it on and off for a few years. I first signed up over 8 years ago and always kept the same account (which I can still remember the details for!) but for this review I will be making a new penguin.
During character creation, you choose your penguin's name and enter log-in details, and choose a colour for your penguin. I'm sure that there are more colours available now from when I used to play - most colours back there could only be purchased by members. You are now asked if you want to buy a membership the second you have activated. Yep, before you've even gotten into the game.
Once into the game, you have a tutorial guide who tells you to open up the map, and you are shown that there are certain areas that are important to find - and once you have found them, you receive a prize.

When I played this game, the only way to get clothing items without being a member was if you had free ones from events so it's nice that there's more ways of getting clothes now.
The server i'm in only have one bar (that shows how many people are in it) but i'm lagging very badly and my game keeps crashing. Time to try a different server. I'll try logging into my original account instead. My first account is still live and well, and I still have all my old items. I decided to go into my igloo and all my puffles are still there!
There's now a backyard to your igloo where you can send your puffles to - and their stats stay the same while they're there. You can also decorate your igloo without being a member, and get free furniture from events - the current event is 'Frozen Fever', which I received a house layout and some free furniture.
I have always thought, and will always think that this game is great for kids. It's safe but still gives you enough opportunity to be free, and now that being a non-member is less restricted, it gives you more fun to do what you like. I adored this game when I was younger simply because of how different it is without being completely confusing.
If you've never played a virtual world, I guess Club Penguin is a good place to start. As for myself, I don't think I would return to being a regular user on there for a few reasons, but I wouldn't discourage anyone else from giving it a go.
(Note: I was unable to get more screenshots while I was on it, but may go back and get some and them in at another time.)
