Whyville is a game that i've heard of on a few social world list websites but i've never actually gone onto the game or signed up.
You create your character from a selection of skin colours, eyes, noses, mouths, hair and tops - for some reason your character cuts off at the shoulders. Once you have created your character, you sign up and meet Yosefina the tutorial guide. She teaches you how to move and talk. It's a click to move game, and you can press enter to chat. But before you can chat to other players, you must pass a test to earn your chat license.
There is a map where you can select which area you would like to go to. The map reminds me a little of the one on Franktown Rocks!, since some areas are typical to towns, and some are a random. For example, there's a town square, mall, beach, and food court - but there is also an airfield where you can build planes, a junkyard, a grotto and a dragon castle.

You can by more parts for your head and torso from a selection of shops - I think you may be able to make your own parts too but i'm not entirely sure. Once you have bought parts, you can customise yourself - which is called 'Nose Picking' for some reason - where you can drag your parts to make yourself unique, or use buttons to move things around and change the order of which is highest to lowest.
It's a little weird 'walking around' since... well, you can't really walk since you have no legs. Or arms for that matter. There's actually quite a number of people playing this game! I went into a forest and there were 6+ other people in the area, all active and chatting to eachother. I'm honestly not sure what the age range of this game is but at least the users aren't super offensive like some other games.

While... 'Nose Picking', I noticed you have a rainbow pendant thing in your jewellery tab, and there's actually a whole page explaining what it is and what it does. It's actually a mood gem that you can use to express how you feel! Depending on what mood you say your in, it'll change colour - similar to mood stones in the real world. You can also use this page to write down your thoughts. Oh! And by clicking on another player and checking their mood, a pop-up will appear telling them that you care - and prizes are given to users who are most caring. Also on this page, you have your own personal journal where you fill in questions about your thoughts and emotions, and they are kept private so no other users can see.
The page about the mood gem is actually one page of a 'book' on Whyville - the book focuses on Wellness. As well as the mood journal, there are many tips on coping with stress, grief, being bullied, how to help your friend(s) with problems they may have, and there's also a whole page about social anxiety, how to cope and over come it, and how to help people who may be suffering from social anxiety. As a social anxiety sufferer myself - diagnosed from a doctor, not self-analysed - I find it very nice that they're spreading awareness to children and giving advice.
Anyway, let's see what else Whyville has to offer! I forgot to mention before, like Meez and MovieStarPlanet, this social world is only partially on a game. Customising yourself, shopping, playing games, etc.is on the actually website, but walking, talking and making friends is in the actual Whyville game.
There are many games to play on the website including classic games such as checkers, simon says, and their own games such as 'Love/Hate' which is where you can earn clams (currency on Whyville) for knowing your friends well. There's even a game called 'WhyTunes' where you can make your own songs and sell them for clams.
I got kinda distracted and this review has been sitting in the background of my laptop for hours so this is where the review ends! This is a very creative game, it's nice how you can create parts to put on your character! I think you need a pass of some sort to create parts, though? But a lot of items drop in areas which you can collect - including those passes!
I would recommend this game to anyone who wants to play around with their creative side - even if you can't make a full character. I haven't spoken to anyone on here so I can't judge how the community is but there isn't random insults flying around that i've seen, and there is a forum which is active daily.
